Yay! I fucked up yet again!

Ok. Took off work today and was going to finish the landscaping but the Cowlands were finally blessed with rain last night and all morning. I'm not complaining. We really really need some rain. The grass is all brown and dying (if not dead).

So after working out this morning I more or less started on getting a coat of paint up on the dining ceiling area I've been working on.

Unfortunately, the primer/stain blocker I used is a really bright vibrant white and since I didn't prime the whole rectangle the on-sale Meijers ceiling flat isn't quite covering it. And to top it off, I'm seeing yellow (arrow) through the primer and 1st coat of paint which worries me.

While I've never seen water drip from up there, there obviously was some form of leak at one time and that is right below the back of the tub and toilet area of the bathroom on the 2nd floor.

I'll paint one more coat on it in a bit and hopefully that'll be the end of it. I really can't do the ceilings with a roller and ladder. It is the worst thing so far for me to try and do. This tiny little area killed me knees big time today.

But then with that finished I used a miter box for the first time and more or less got the molding/barrier up around the inside of the door. Even got the 1st coat of paint on it too.

Now even though I measured space once then remeasured it again I somehow cut the molding a tiny bit too short. However the angles aren't too bad and I decided "what the fuck" and nailed it all up anyway. With the navy color you can't tell I fucked up in both sizing and even hitting some of the nails so I don't care. It'll get another final coat later today and then Sunday it'll get some weather stripping to make a better seal for the door.

I got the excess spray foam removed from the porch/house seam and pulled out the nails and scrubbed the siding (what good that did).

You can see how permanently discolored (and permantently filthy) the siding is by comparing it to the siding around the windows in the pic above.

The poplar I painted the past 2 nights (layed on the seam above) will be nailed through the siding to place them. I'll also lay down one or two beads of silicon under them and behind them to hopefully seal the whole thing and keep water and miscellaneous shit out of the seam.

I was actually surprised how the default "gray" porch enamel looks like the custom "sharkfin" color that the trim is done in. You can barely tell they vary.

Of course I can't do something without fucking it up somehow and this porch project is no different.

Somewhere between making my measurements and then buying the poplar I decided in my mind that getting an 8 ft and then a 6 ft piece would be perfectly fine (not working the math over again) and as you can see by the arrow above I'm about 3 inches short now to go to the edge of the porch. At least it goes under the railing so I'll just lay down new caulk around the rest.

This is what I get for trying to save $1.50 in wood when I noticed there were smaller lengths available.

Once the moldings are in place I'll begin working on the threshold (below).

This is weathered, cracked, and more or less beaten to death since we walk in and out of this door (and no doubt have most previous residents) for 60 years or so (the porch isn't original).

I've scraped the loose paint on it and will scrub it clean and sand it a bit.

I'm just going to paint it the same grey porch enamel since this is supposed to be more durable for foot traffic.

With that done, 4 new hooks for planters in place, and a cleaning of the windows and screens and (attempt) siding the porch will more or less be done.

Of course, the railings look like total shit.
